Job Opportunities

Electrical engineers develop, design, and supervise the installation and production of electrical equipment such as, radar and navigation systems, cars, airplanes, electric wiring, electric motors, and lighting. Both of the electrical and electronics engineers specialize in and study similar engineering concepts, however, electrical engineers specialize in the communication systems, generation of power, instrumentation, electrical equipment production, or power systems engineering, and electronics engineers specialize in electronic device function.

Electronics engineers are responsible for designing and fabricating electronic devices. The electronic devices fabricated by these engineers require a lot of development, research, and evaluation, and are used in a wide range of applications (like computing, transportation, manufacturing, and aviation). Electronics engineers have good opportunities to work on flight systems, radar, sonar, and other such devices and systems.

There are many similarities between electrical and electronics engineers. Both of them engineers require help of special design tools and software. Also, they both need to collaborate with other engineers of their field to exchange ideas and investigate possibilities for new projects.

Some electronics engineers concentrate completely on computer hardware. These engineers are called "computer hardware engineers".

Examples of job opportunities for electronics and communications engineers would include:

  • In operation and maintenance, electrical and electronics engineers would deal with the management, operation, and maintenance of a myriad of systems such as, telecommunications, aerospace, avionics, mobile communications, microwave systems, optical fibers, cabling, etc.
  • In the design environment, electrical engineers work in factories that deal with the design of electronic devices, control systems, sensors and detection systems, networking, and the like.
